Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri might be famous from the Netflix show, but even before it first aired, this lake has been a popular spot to spend your summer holiday at.
Today, I’m sharing the top 10 best things at the Lake of the Ozarks, and some important tips to know before you go!
Best things to do
Boating on Lake of the Ozarks is of course a must do experience. With over 1,100 miles of shoreline, the lake offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. Whether you rent a pontoon, speedboat, or jet ski, there’s nothing like cruising the open waters, feeling the breeze, and soaking up the sun.
You can anchor in a quiet cove for a swim or pack a picnic and find a secluded spot to enjoy your meal. One of my favorite memories is when we found a hidden cove and spent the afternoon swimming and lounging on the boat.
The lake is also dotted with waterfront restaurants and bars where you can dock and grab a bite. Boating here is all about freedom and relaxation, and it’s a must-do activity at Lake of the Ozarks.
Ha Ha Tonka State Park is a fascinating blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. The park is home to the ruins of a 20th-century stone castle, perched high on a bluff with stunning views of the lake.
Hiking trails wind through the park, leading you to sinkholes, natural bridges, and caves. One trail even takes you to a spring that pumps out millions of gallons of water daily. I walked up to the castle ruins and was blown away by the panoramic views.
The trails are well-marked and range from easy to challenging, so there’s something for everyone. Ha Ha Tonka is perfect for a day of hiking, exploring, and soaking in the landscape.
The Bagnell Dam Strip is the heart of Lake of the Ozarks’ nightlife and entertainment. This lively area is packed with restaurants, bars, shops, and arcades.
In the evening, it comes alive with music, lights, and the buzz of people enjoying the night. You can start with dinner at one of the many restaurants offering everything from casual fare to fine dining. Afterward, stroll along the strip, play some games, or pop into a bar for live music and drinks. I had a blast here one night, hopping from place to place, meeting new people, and dancing the night away.

Lake of the Ozarks is a paradise for fishing. The lake is teeming with a variety of fish, including bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a beginner, the lake offers great fishing spots.
You can fish from the shore, a dock, or rent a boat to reach deeper waters. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times, as the lake is calm, and the fish are biting. Waking up early, and getting straight to the quiet lake is such a nice experience.
Local bait shops and guides are available to help you find the best spots and give tips on what’s biting. Fishing at Lake of the Ozarks is both relaxing and exciting, a perfect way to connect with nature.
Bridal Cave, located near Camdenton, is a must-visit for anyone fascinated by natural wonders. This stunning cave gets its name from a legendary Native American wedding that took place inside.
The guided tours take you through beautifully lit chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and incredible rock formations. The temperature inside the cave is constantly cool, making it a perfect escape from the summer heat.
On my visit, the guide shared fascinating stories and facts about the cave’s history and geology, making the experience even more memorable. The cave’s atmosphere is almost magical, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular spot for actual weddings.
